Local Opportunities
January 2021

January 22, 2021 marks the 48th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision which legalized abortion on demand in our nation. While the diocesan pilgrimage to the March for Life in Washington D.C. is cancelled, we invite everyone to participate in witnessing to life through local participation.

Below are many opportunities in our diocese to witness to life this January and to pray for an end to abortion.

Spiritual
Sponsorship

Spiritual Sponsorship Program
for young people  (Month of January)

Do you know a young person who wants to be involved in defending the culture of life? This January, invite them to participate in an evangelization and prayer campaign called the Spiritual Sponsorship Program. The Spiritual Sponsorship Program published by the McGrath Institute for Church Life is a free program that empowers young people to invite others to pray for a culture of life and increase awareness of the dignity of every human person. It combines evangelistic outreach with participation in right to life marches and events.

Drive-In Rally
Fort Wayne
January 16

Can’t take a bus to the Chicago or National March for Life this year? On Saturday, January 16th, the “Moving the Movement” Midwest tour is bringing the pro-life momentum to Fort Wayne with a drive-in rally, inspiring speakers, and diaper drive! Sponsored by the March for Life Chicago, and co-hosted by the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and Right to Life of Northeast Indiana, this is a unique opportunity to support the culture of life right in our community!

The rally will begin at 4 PM at Concordia Theological Seminary, 6600 N Clinton Street, at the parking lot near the soccer fields. Parking opens 1 hour prior to the rally. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to the rally start to ensure all are parked. Ushers will greet your car, take any diaper donations, and direct you to a parking spot.

9 Days for Life Novena
January 21-29

9 Days for Life is an annual, nationwide novena for the protection of human life, sponsored by the USCCB. Each day’s intention is accompanied by a short reflection, suggested actions and related information to help build a culture of life. You can sign up to receive the novena prayers and reflections via email or text message in either English or Spanish. Parish resources are also available.

Mass for Life & Fort Wayne March for Life
January 23

St. Mary Mother of God parish in Fort Wayne will host a 10:30 a.m. Mass on Saturday, Jan. 23 for those wishing to pray for the defense of human life and an end to abortion.

Also on Jan. 23, join Bishop Rhoades at the Northeast Indiana March for Life 2021 – Prayer Gathering – sponsored by Right to Life of Northeast Indiana. The Prayer Gathering is at Abundant Life Church at 3301 E Coliseum Blvd starting at 12pm, doors open 11:30am.

Instead of their traditional Rally and March, they will be hosting a Prayer Gathering and asking people to complete their Marches individually, at home or in prominent places around your city.

All are welcome to attend. The main reflection speaker this year will be Mark, brother-in-law to late abortionist George (Ulrich) Klopfer, and the person that made the gruesome discovery of the remains of the 2,411 babies.

Participants will follow COVID-19 guidelines as recommended at the time of the event.

Mass for Life &
Peaceful Gathering
January 29

Mass for Life
Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades will be celebrating a 10:30 a.m. Mass on Friday, Jan. 29, to offer students and families an opportunity to gather and pray for the defense of human life.

The Mass will be at St. Patrick Parish in South Bend. Space is limited and advance reservation is highly encouraged. Please RSVP to John Pratt at [email protected] with the number of seats needed for your school, parish, or family. Total capacity is limited to the first 100 reservations.

Peaceful Gathering
Join Bishop Rhoades for the Right to Life Michiana peaceful gathering in front of the Federal Courthouse in downtown South Bend on Friday, January 29th from noon to 1:00 PM.

The Federal Courthouse is located at 204 South Main Street, and free two-hour parking is available on most downtown streets. Please wear a mask and maintain social distance during this event.

Elkhart
January 30

An outdoor prayer gathering in Elkhart on Saturday, January 30th from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, sponsored by Right to Life Michiana.

The socially distanced gathering will take place along Bristol St., near St. Thomas Church, located at 1331 N. Main St., Elkhart, IN 46514.

An 11:00 AM Mass for Life will be offered at St. Thomas Catholic Church before the prayer gathering.

Parking is available in the church and school parking lots. Please wear a mask and maintain social distance during this event.

Goshen
January 30

Right to Life Michiana is sponsoring an outdoor prayer gathering in Goshen on Saturday, January 30thfrom 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.

The socially distanced gathering will take place in front of the Elkhart County Courthouse, located at 101 N. Main Street in Goshen. Parking is available on W. Clinton Street, W. Lincoln Avenue and N. Main Street. Please wear a mask and maintain social distance during this event.
