Teacher Recruitment Fair

March 22 and 23, 2023

You are invited to interview to teach at a school in the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend as part of a Virtual Teacher Recruitment Fair. Applicants will be invited to submit their resume and schedule an interview time slot with the diocesan Catholic school(s) of their choice.

Salary for first-year, full-time teachers in the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend begins at $40,250 for Fall 2023.

Compensation is based on level of education and years of licensed teaching experience in an accredited school.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

  • Applicants who are Catholic must be practicing Catholics
  • Indiana teaching license in appropriate grade level/teaching area; or demonstrated eligibility to receive license.
  • High level thinking skills.
  • Currently qualified to speak and write coherently, fluently and grammatically correct English.
  • Currently physically qualified to supervise students adequately.
  • Strong written, verbal presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

  • Do I need prior teaching experience?
    • No. While substitute teachers must be licensed to substitute teach, prior experience is not necessary.
  • How do I know when and where I work?
    • Principals will contact substitute teachers with opportunities once they are aware there is a need. 
    • Substitute teachers may specify a particular location or availability. 
  • How much can I expect to work?
    • Some substitute teachers may choose to opt-into every teaching opportunity, while others treat this as a part-time job. Long-term substitute teaching opportunities under contract at a particular school are also often available. 
  • How do I learn what my duties are?
    • Substitute teaching duties are assigned by the requesting Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend School. 
  • Do you have to be Catholic to work in Catholic schools?
    • Teacher applicants who are Catholic must be practicing Catholics.

Substitute teacher pay is:

With a valid educator license:
Full day: $125
Half day: $75

With a valid substitute teacher permit:
Full day: $100
Half day: $60

Compensation is per diem. Pay is remitted on the 15th and last day of each month. 

Long-term sub pay: Substitute teachers who have a long-term substitute teacher contract with one location for 30 consecutive calendar days or more are paid on the same pay scale as teachers. When you complete your substitute teacher application, indicate your willingness to be a long-term substitute teacher by noting so in the relevant field provided on the application. When specific long-term substitute opportunities become available, they are posted alongside other careers in our schools. These are found at diocesefwsb.org/careers.

Substitute teachers must possess a valid Indiana Educator License or Substitute Permit

You may apply for a substitute permit through the state prior to starting this application; however, you must be hired through the diocese before the substitute permit can be verified by the school corporation.
